Hi, my name is Justine and I have struggled with depression on and off for years, until I found a purpose that sparked a sense of personal achievement. I am going to share with you some natural ways of dealing with depression that may help spark something in you.
How I Have Lived With Depression
I cannot honestly pin point exactly when I knew I was depressed, but I do remember how I felt while I was carrying my first child. I suffered with prenatal depression and post natal depression, it was one of the most trying times in my life.
Not because I didn't want to be pregnant or anything like that, something inside of me changed and I felt as though I had no control over it. I remember always feeling as though something terrible was going to happen, I became the over protective mum, (a bubble mum).
For many years this has been an issue that I have had to deal with as a mom, I couldn't believe that I was so lucky to have been blessed with two beautiful girls. But then I was constantly dealing with the fear of loosing them, it doesn't bring me to tears now like it used to. I have had to learn how to let go and have a little more trust!!
This is just one of many other times in my life that I have felt as though no one heard me, or everyone hated me, paranoia sets in, I used to even have nightmares about other people secretly not liking me and talking about me behind my back.
Until one day everything was too much and I had my first panic attack. I couldn't breath, it was horrible. That was when I really knew there was more going on and I needed help.
Some Effective Ways To Help You Deal With Depression Naturally
Starting Your Day With Exercise & A Healthy Breakfast
This is a great way to get your day rolling on a more positive note. I have struggled with this myself, just because I love laying in with my morning coffee especially as the colder months start rolling in and I am not a morning person.
But when I do make the effort I really enjoy it, I have more energy and motivation for the day. It is my time, we all need alone time, do you make time in your day for exercise? Even if its just a gentle walk or swim...anything that gets the heart pumping and the blood flowing.
You could consider trying yoga? Yoga is fantastic for helping you clear all the stuff that you carry around in your head and body, it gets everything moving and then teaches you how to release it.
Doing yoga is one of the best gifts you could give yourself. If you can't afford classes maybe look at downloading a Yoga App for beginners and try it at home.
After Exercising Make Yourself A Smoothie
I use a Nutri-Bullet, it has been the best investment, we use it every morning in our house. I like to throw all sorts of good stuff into my smoothies.
- one frozen banana
- small handful of frozen mixed berries
- small handful of walnuts
- tablespoon of LSA (linseed & almonds ground together)
- tablespoon of flaxseed oil
- 1 heaped tablespoon of natural greek yogurt
- teaspoon of cinammon
You can add more to that, or change it around. I always try to get a smoothie into me within two hours after exercising. Best way is to just make it as soon as you get home from your morning walk, you will feel great!!
